COMPANIES EXPECT TO RECRUIT MORE IT STAFF
43 percent of companies expect to increase their permanent IT staff levels in the next 12 months, according to a survey by specialist recruiter Hays.
Positive hiring intentions also exist for sales professionals, with 42 percent of employers expecting to increase their permanent staff in this area, followed by a 38 percent increase to engineering staff levels.
At the other end of the scale, 30 percent of employers expect to decrease their permanent marketing staff levels and 26 percent their human resources staff. Meanwhile purchasing, operations and accountancy & finance staff levels are largely expected to remain unchanged.
“This is a good sign that employers are thinking about their future recruitment needs again in certain areas,” suggests Jason Walker, Managing Director of Hays in New Zealand.
“The focus on sales professionals isn’t surprising given the general focus on revenue generation, while engineering firms have remained busy over recent months and healthy vacancy activity is a key feature of this market.
“But the expectation for an increase in permanent IT staff levels was unexpected given the recent focus on contract over permanent appointments in this area.
“Overall the results suggest confidence is starting to return, which will facilitate a continuation of the recent gentle recruitment momentum.”
