3 IN 4 SAY BUSINESS ACTIVITY TO REMAIN POSITIVE
73 percent of people believe business activity will remain positive for the rest of 2007, according to a survey by specialist recruiter Hays.
42.76 percent of respondents believe business activity will be strong while 28.82 percent believe business activity will be favourable. Just 28.42 percent of people believe business activity will fall.
Meanwhile, 45.9 percent say recruiting talent is most important to their organisation, ahead of retention (34.02 percent) and rising overheads (20.09 percent).
“The continuing resources and commodities boom, increase in corporate investments and profits as well as tax revenues in the government sector are some of the reasons why business activity is expected to remain positive throughout the remainder of 2007,” said Grahame Doyle, senior regional director of Hays.
“This is great news for candidates looking to advance their career as positive business activity means more job opportunities.
“However the skills shortage is continuing, putting pressure on employers. Fuelled by this positive business activity, demand for specialists remains high. Those employers that implement strategies to ensure they can attract and retain talent despite the ongoing skills shortage will be able to take full advantage of the positive business market,” said Grahame.
The first two months of 2007 have suggested that the hottest jobs for the year are in Accountancy & Finance, Construction, Engineering, Office Support and Resources & Mining.
The survey was conducted on www.hays.com.au in January and February 2007. 1,800 people completed the survey.
